The union of a doctor, a chemist and a biochemist made it possible to take the first steps in a pharmacological device that has just won the Radar Spin-off award.

Gabriel Álvarez and Catuxa Prado, now in Neurostech, a spin-off linked to the Neuroscience Foundation, have just received 15,500€ as a prize for their work. Their project, which is based on their own and those of international researchers, will provide a new route for the administration of drugs for the treatment of neurological diseases “which today is very complex due to the existence of a biological barrier (blood-brain barrier), which prevents drugs administered by conventional means from reaching the central nervous system”.

NEUROSTECH has managed to “refine” the technology to achieve this release in a very controlled manner. In the short term, they want to test the device on animals, until it is suitable in a few years time for clinical trials.
